Hatelistings are the opposite of fanlistings; instead of listing people who are fans, it lists people who share the same hate of a certain thing or person. The subject of this hatelisting is Eragon by Christopher Paolini.
I can't think of one thing I liked about Eragon and I can think of several things that inspire immense dislike. While reading the book I was subjected to shooting pains of I've-read-this-before resounding in my head. Every Ardwen, Isenstar and every other poor anagram from Middle Earth caused images from the Lord of the Rings movies to flash before my eyes. The plot and characters oozed cliché. What was going to happen was so blatently obvious that I got a pretty clear idea of what it would be like to be psychic. The entire book reads like bad fanfiction. There's more, but to wrap it up, everything in Eragon reeked of unoriginality--done before, done better.
But if you're here and want to join, then you probably already knew all of that, right? As you may imagine, I get a fair amount of hate mail. Enough to construct an F.A.Q. page of sorts that you may find interesting. If you want to send me some any sort of hatemail, at least have the courtesy to read that first. Maybe the retaliation you were hoping to get out of me will already be there.
